Liberation of the last stronghold held by ISIL/Daesh

    1. The Government of Japan welcomes the reports of the liberation of the last stronghold held by ISIL as an important step for peace and stability in Syria. The Government of Japan appreciates the courageous efforts of the global coalition.
    2. On the other hand, even though all ISIL territories have been liberated, fight against extremism continues and the serious humanitarian crisis remains as a huge number of refugees and internally displaced persons are still suffering.
    3. For the fundamental solution of the crisis in Syria, the advancement of the political process based on the UNSCR 2254 is crucial. Japan is determined to encourage parties concerned to make further efforts to restore peace and stability in Syria and also to continue to provide humanitarian aid for Syrians living in Syria and its neighboring countries, and assistance for the countries hosting Syrian refugees in cooperation with the international community.
