Meeting with the Director-General of the UNESCO

On October 1, commencing at 3:00 p.m. (local time:10:00 p.m. JST), for approximately 30 minutes, Minister for Foreign Affairs Motegi Toshimitsu, who was visiting France, had a meeting with H.E. Ms. Audrey AZOULAY, Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). A summary of the meeting is as follows.
- Mr. Motegi stated that he was pleased to meet Ms. Azoulay for the first time. Mr. Motegi also mentioned that he highly commends on Ms. Azoulay’s leadership, to which Japan will continue to extend its support. He expressed his appreciation of the role that UNESCO plays in the fields of education and culture. Moreover, Mr. Motegi expressed his intension to support the initiatives of Ms. Azoulay towards the strengthening of UNESCO including the organizational transformation. He then emphasized that Japan, who will celebrate its 70th anniversary of its membership of UNESCO next year, will continue to contribute actively on the areas of education, culture, science, and information/communication, including from intellectual aspects as well as in human resources.
- Ms. Azoulay welcomed the visit of Mr. Motegi to the UNESCO Headquarters. She stated that she highly commends on Japan’s contribution to UNESCO and wishes to further deepen the cooperative relation between Japan and UNESCO.
- Mr. Motegi and Ms. Azoulay shared the view to cooperate further on various areas.
