Nuclear Disarmament and Non-Proliferation

On December 23, commencing at 10:45 a.m. for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. TERADA Minoru, Assistant to the Prime Minister, exchanged views online on nuclear disarmament with Hon. Phil TWYFORD, Minister for Disarmament and Arms Control of New Zealand.

Mr. TERADA explained Prime Minister Kishida’s strong determination to lead international efforts towards a world without nuclear weapons and the importance of maintaining and strengthening the NPT regime, which constitutes the cornerstone of the international nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation regime. Minister TWYFORD explained New Zealand’s views regarding the 10th NPT Review Conference to be held in NY next January 2022.

Both sides affirmed cooperation between Japan and the New Zealand for the success of the 10th NPT Review Conference, including through the Stockholm Initiative.
