In the Philippines, Typhoon No. 24 (locally known as "Pablo") cut across the southern island of Mindanao on 4-5 December last year. The devastating floods and landslides that ensued killed and affected many people.

The situation prompted Japan to extend emergency grant aid totaling 4.2 million dollars on December 18 to support these victims.

This grant aid has made it possible to deliver food, safe water and other relief supplies though the UN World Food Programme (WFP), the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Water tanks and portable toilets carrying Japan's ODA logo have been set up through UNICEF to improve the health environment and prevent infection.
