  1. The 3rd Leadership Council Meeting of the New Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition (New Alliance), organized by G8, Africa Union Commission, and World Economic Forum, was held on September 23 in New York. Dr. Akihiko TANAKA, President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), attended the meeting from Japan.
  2. In the meeting, Dr. Tanaka stated, "the principles for responsible agricultural investment under CFS consultative process should be practical and user-friendly to be truly effective principles." Dr. Tanaka explained Japan's active contribution to international cooperation in this field by introducing a launch of "Forward-looking research and analysis programme for responsible agricultural investment" with financial support from Japan. In order to contribute to improve the principles for responsible agricultural investment, this programme will compile and analyze case studies and lessons from ongoing agricultural investment projects from a perspective of implementation of the principles. Furthermore, Dr. Tanaka emphasized the importance of utilizing outcomes of the programme in the CFS consultations and implementation of the principles.
  3. Participants also discussed challenges to be tackled and priority actions to promote responsible agricultural investment, after reporting of the progress on the investment commitment made by G8, private sectors, and African partner countries.
