The TOKYO 2016 Olympic Games Bid Committee
The TOKYO 2016 Olympic Games Bid Committee

2008 is an Olympic year, and the Games that open in Beijing this August are sure to capture the attention of the entire world. Against this backdrop, interest in the candidate cities that are vying to host the 2016 Olympic games is rising.

Tokyo is actively promoting a movement to bid for the 2016 Olympic Games to Japan and to host it in and around the capital as an unconventional Olympics that would make use of the cutting-edge technology and indigenous sensibilities developed in Japan and through this, to present hopes and dreams to the children who will carry them on to the next generation. In the Tokyo Olympic Games Bid Opinion Poll carried out in Japan in December 2007, over 60% of the respondents were in favor of the policy. Tokyo is determined to win out in the competition with rival cities by promoting even greater bidding activities from now on.

The host city for the 2016 Olympic Games will be decided in October 2009. The most important key to realizing a successful bid for the Olympic Games is to harness the people's enthusiasm "to want to hold the Olympic Games in Japan." So in order to realize the hosting of the next Tokyo Olympics, we are asking the entire nation for even more cooperation.
