The area between the coast of Miyazaki and the northward-bound Japan Current is an ideal fishing ground. Fish are plentiful, and many different varieties are caught depending on the season. In-shore fishing catches include sardine, horse mackerel, spiny lobster and frog crab. Bonito and tuna are among the fish caught by offshore and deep-sea fishing. Fish farming of red sea bream, yellowtail, eel, sweetfish and carp is also popular.
