THE ASIA-EUROPE FOUNDATION
MINISTERIAL DECLARATION

15 February 1997

We, the ASEM Foreign Ministers and the Vice-President of the European Commission,

Recalling that the Asia-Europe Foundation was approved by the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) on 1 and 2 March 1996 in Bangkok, Thailand:

Noting that the ASEM Chairman's Statement, in paragraph 19, recorded:

"The Asia-Europe Foundation would be set up in Singapore with contributions from Asian and European countries, to promote exchanges between think-tanks, peoples and cultural groups."

Welcome the establishment of the Asia-Europe Foundation in Singapore and renew our commitment to ensure its success.

Request the 1998 Asia-Europe Meeting to review the status of the Foundation.
