Japan’s Contribution to the Global Fund’s Eighth Replenishment
November 25, 2025
- On November 21 (local time), the Global Fund's Eighth Replenishment Conference was held in Johannesburg, the Republic of South Africa.
- Global health is a critical issue that not only directly impacts human health but also poses significant economic, social, and security risks to the international community, including Japan. It is also crucial for Japan's own health security. In particular, prevention of, preparedness for, and response to health crises, including infectious diseases, cannot be adequately addressed by individual countries or regions alone; collaboration with the international community is indispensable.
- Based on this understanding, Japan recognizes the Global Fund as an important partner for advancing its health diplomacy, including the promotion of universal health coverage (UHC), given its efforts to combat the three major infectious diseases—AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria—and strengthen health systems worldwide. Consequently, Japan has decided to contribute up to 81 billion JPY to the Global Fund over the next three years, targeting the 8th replenishment period (2026-2028).
- Japan will continue to demonstrate leadership in the field of global health by working closely with the Global Fund and other relevant organizations, while also fully utilizing bilateral assistance.
