Telephone Talk between Prime Minister SUGA Yoshihide and United Nations Secretary-General’s Special Envoy on Climate Michael Bloomberg

On April 30, commencing just around 9:30 a.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. SUGA Yoshihide, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with Mr. Micheal R. Bloomberg, the Secretary General's Special Envoy on Climate Ambition and Solutions. The overview of the talk is as follows.
- Prime Minister Suga expressed his respect for the efforts of Special Envoy Bloomberg who has been engaged in climate change issue as UN Special Envoy, and stated that the Leaders Summit on Climate held recently was meaningful in enhancing momentum for addressing climate change in each country. Prime Minister Suga also stated that Japan announced at the Summit that it will aim to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 46 percent in fiscal year 2030 from its fiscal year 2013 levels, and will continue strenuous efforts in its challenge to meet the lofty goal of cutting its emission by 50 percent.
- Special Envoy Bloomberg expressed to Prime Minister Suga his appreciation to Japan’s announcement, and the two confirmed that they will enhance cooperation in the efforts toward the realization of decarbonized world.
