  1. The World Cosplay Summit 2020 was held on the 1st and 2nd of August. The Summit is now in its 18th year. It was held online this year due to the threat of the novel coronavirus disease.
  2. At the opening ceremony of the Summit on August 1st, KAWASE Kazuhiro, Director of the Cultural Affairs and Overseas Public Relations Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, gave the opening speech. He spoke about how the number of countries and regions participating in the Summit has increased over the years and how the cosplay culture which originated in Japan has become a globally shared culture. He also congratulated the participants and thanked the organizers.

World Cosplay Summit

The World Cosplay Summit began in 2003 and the Summit is now in its 18th year. The event is co-hosted by the Ministry, Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya City, Aichi Television Broadcasting and others with the aim of contributing to the “creation of international exchange through youth culture originated in Japan” through Japanese anime, manga and video games.
