Special Advisor to Prime Minister Nagashima’s Visit to Hawaii

Mr. NAGASHIMA Akihisa, Special Advisor to Prime Minister visited the Island of Oahu, the State of Hawaii, the United States of America from May 25 to 29. The overview of the visit is as follows.
- On the Memorial Day of 26th, Special Advisor to Prime Minister Nagashima visited the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific to attend the Mayor’s Memorial Day Ceremony and proceeded to lay a wreath. He also had informal talk with Governor Josh Green, State of Hawaii, Mayor Rick Blangiardi, City and County of Honolulu, Admiral Samuel Paparo, Commander, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) and General Kevin B. Schneider, Commander, U.S. Pacific Air Force (PACAF).
- Also, on the occasion of this visit, Special Advisor to Prime Minister Nagashima met with U.S. military officials such as Admiral Paparo and Admiral Stephen Koehler, Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet (PACFLT), to exchange views on Japan-U.S. relations, particularly foreign and security policy, and regional affairs.
- Moreover, Special Advisor to Prime Minister Nagashima met with Governor Green and experts to exchange views on Japan-Hawaii, and met with Ms. Suzanne Puanani Vares-Lum, President, Daniel K. Inouye Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS), Dr. David Santoro, Pacific Forum, President and CEO, Dr. James K. Scott, East-West Center, Interim President and experts such as a group of professors at APCSS to exchange views on foreign and security policy as well as regional situations and human resource exchange.
- In addition, Special Advisor to Prime Minister Nagashima visited the Ehime Maru Memorial, the USS Arizona Memorial and the Memorial for Commander Fusata Iida to lay a wreath and offer a silent prayer. Special Advisor to Prime Minister Nagashima also visited the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, U.S. attack submarine Montana and the Marine Corps base in Kaneohe.
