Photo session
  1. On April 9th, commencing at 07:00 p.m., local time (08:00 a.m. on April 10th, Japan time), Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is accompanying Prime Minister’s official visit to the U.S., hosted a dinner with Mr. Richard Armitage, President, Armitage International, Dr. John J. Hamre, President and CEO, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Ms. Wendy Cutler, Vice President, Asia Society Policy Institute, and Mr. Christopher Johnstone, Japan Chair, Center for Strategic and International Studies and held a broad exchange of views regarding Japan-U.S. relations.
  2. At the outset, Minister Kamikawa gave credit to Mr. Armitage for his longstanding commitment to Japan-U.S. relations and for creating the practice of publishing bipartisan report known as “Armitage-Nye Report.” Minister Kamikawa conveyed the importance of using the opportunity of Prime Minister Kishida's visit to the U.S. to strongly convey the message that Japan and the U.S., as global partners, will resolutely defend the free and open international order based on the rule of law, in an era of turmoil that is shaking the foundations of the existing international order.
  3. Dinner participants expressed the view that Japan and the U.S. share a common strategy and Japan-U.S. cooperation has reached an unprecedented level, and that Japan and the Japan-U.S. alliance are already playing a greater role than ever before as the international environment becomes more tense. The Minister and the experts held a broad and frank exchange of views on the recent international situation and the state of diplomacy.
