Prime Minister Ishiba’s participation in the Japanese Food Promotion Event “Taste of Japan : A Culinary Journey”

From September 23 at 5:30 p.m. local time (September 24 at 6:30 a.m. Japan time), Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, who was visiting New York during the High Level Week of the United Nations General Assembly,attended an event for Japanese food promotion held at a restaurant in New York City, where he promoted the attraction of Japanese cuisine and Japanese food ingredients broadly to the world. The overview of the event is as follows:
- On September 23 (local time), the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan organized the Japanese food promotion event “Taste of Japan: A Culinary Journey”in New York, where the world's attention is focused during the UN High-Level Week. The event was attended by approximately 150 guests including from the food industry, the U.S. government, and the press.
- In his address, Prime Minister Ishiba highlighted the wide variety and rich flavors of Japanese food ingredients, their popularity in the U.S., the transformation of agricultural policy including the revival of farmland and increased rice production, and the potential of increasing tenfold the number of onigiri (rice ball) shops worldwide through such initiatives.He also stressed that Japanese food ingredients can bring happiness to people around the world, broadly promoting the attraction of Japanese food culture and ingredients.
- During this event, top chefs in New York showcased the attraction of Japanese cuisine by serving original dishes made of Japan’s most well-known, exported ingredients such as rice, scallops, yellowtail, and Wagyu beef, paired with Japanese sake.
