Foreign Minister Kono meets with USTR Lighthizer

On August 17, commencing at 5:15 p.m. (local time) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with his counterpart Ambassador Robert Lighthizer, United States Trade Representative, during his trip to Washington, D.C. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Foreign Minister Kono and Ambassador Lighthizer widely discussed measures to strengthen Japan- U.S. trade and economic relations.
- Both sides discussed work plans to move forward efforts in the trade area and shared the view on accelerating discussions under the Japan-U.S. Economic Dialogue in order to address bilateral trade issues as well as to consider appropriate means to strengthen free and fair trade and promote high trade and investment standards.
- Foreign Minister Kono and Ambassador Lighthizer also discussed common concerns and collaboration to tackle unfair trade practices in third countries.
