On November 13, 2018, Mrs. Akie Abe, the spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, was invited to a reception to congratulate the Art Therapy Pilot Program by Mrs. Karen Pence, Second Lady of the United States of America during her visit in Japan.

Mrs. Abe welcomed the visit of Mrs. Pence after 9 months since her last visit to Japan in February. She expressed appreciation for the U.S. government's support for the pilot program that aims at launching a graduate art therapy program at the University of Tsukuba.

Mrs. Pence commended the initiative to start an art therapy graduate program. She also emphasized that the grant to the program demonstrates the United States' commitment to the friendship with the people of Japan.
