Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk

On October 25, commencing at 9:30 PM, local time, (10:30 PM, Japan Standard Time) for approximately 10 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to attend the ASEAN-related Summit Meetings, held a summit telephone talk with the Honorable Donald J. Trump, President of the United States of America. The overview is as follows.
- At the outset, President Trump offered his congratulations to Prime Minister Takaichi on her assumption of office. Prime Minister Takaichi stated that strengthening the Japan-U.S. Alliance is a top priority of Japan’s foreign and security policy, and the two leaders confirmed that they would cooperate to continue elevating the Japan-U.S. Alliance to new heights.
- Prime Minister Takaichi stated that Japan is an indispensable partner for the U.S. in the Indo-Pacific, and expressed her intention to work together toward realizing a free and open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). Prime Minister Takaichi also expressed her respect towards President Trump’s leadership in achieving the agreement in the Middle East.
- Prime Minister Takaichi also asked for continued understanding and cooperation of the U.S. for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue.
- Prime Minister Takaichi stated that she looks forward to welcoming President Trump to Japan, and President Trump also stated that he looks forward to meeting Prime Minister Takaichi in person.
