On April 22, commencing at 9:30 a.m., for approximately 35 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan received a courtesy call by Mr. George Glass, Ambassador-Designate of the United States. The overview is as follows:

Prime Minister Ishiba stated that the Japan-U.S. Alliance is the cornerstone of Japan's diplomacy and security and expressed his intention to promote mutually beneficial cooperation and further strengthen the Alliance. In response, Ambassador-Designate Glass shared this view and stated that Japan-U.S. Alliance is the most important alliance and that he would like to cooperate for further strengthening the Alliance.

Both sides exchanged views on regional situations such as China and North Korea. Prime Minister Ishiba asked for continued understanding and cooperation for the immediate resolution of the abductions issue and gained full support from Ambassador-Designate Glass.

Both sides concurred Japan and the United States need to strengthen the deterrence and response capabilities of the Japan-U.S. Alliance while mitigating the impact on local communities. Prime Minister Ishiba and Ambassador-Designate Glass also exchanged views on current Japan-U.S. relations, including U.S. tariff measures, and Prime Minister expressed his intention to promote cooperation in a wide variety of fields in a mutually beneficial manner, and Ambassador-Designate concurred to this point.
