On November 14th, commencing at 3:25 p.m. (5:25 a.m. on November 15th, JST) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Lima, Peru, to attend APEC Ministerial Meeting held a Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Honorable Antony Blinken, Secretary of State of the United States of America. This was the first meeting in person between the two Ministers. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. Foreign Minister Iwaya stated that he would like to further deepen cooperation as global partners to uphold and bolster the free and open international order based on the rule of law.
  2. The two Ministers concurred to implement cooperation to further strengthen JapanU.S. Alliance deterrence and response capabilities, and further developing networks of like-minded countries. They also exchanged their views on Japan-U.S. cooperation in the economic field.
  3. The two Ministers exchanged their views on regional situations such as issues related to China, policies toward North Korea including on the nuclear and missile issues as well as the abductions issue, and the situation in Ukraine.
  4. Foreign Minister Iwaya stated that he would like to work together for cooperation with the Global South.
