On May 26, commencing at 11:00 a.m. local time (2:30 p.m. JST), Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Delhi, India to attend the Japan-Australia-India-U.S. (Quad) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held a Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with the Honorable Marco Rubio, Secretary of State of the United States of America.

  1. Minister MOTEGI and Secretary Rubio exchanged views on the regional situation in the Indo-Pacific and economic security, covering issues related to China, following President Trump’s latest visit to China, and confirmed that Japan and the United States would continue to coordinate closely. In this context, they reaffirmed the importance of peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait.
  2. They also exchanged views on the situation surrounding Iran. Minister MOTEGI stated that it is important that an agreement, including on the stability in the Strait of Hormuz, is achieved as soon as possible between U.S. and Iran. Minister MOTEGI and Secretary Rubio reaffirmed that Japan and the United States will continue close coordination on the matter.
