Japan-U.S. Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On November 5, commencing at 8:15 p.m. for approximately an hour, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a meeting with the Honorable Rex W. Tillerson, Secretary of State of the United States of America, during his visit to Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- With regard to North Korea, the two ministers exchanged views on the international community as a whole raising the pressure on North Korea, through continued collaboration between Japan and the United States.
- The two ministers also exchanged a variety of opinions regarding the concept of a "free and open Indo-Pacific."
- Regarding U.S. Forces Japan, including those in Okinawa, Minister Kono stressed the importance of maintaining and strengthening a relationship of trust with the local communities.
