On October 30, commencing at around 10:15 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Donald Trump, President of the United States of America. The overview of the telephone talk is as follows.

  1. The two leaders exchanged views on the situation concerning North Korea and on President Trump's visit to Japan, which is scheduled to start from November 5.
  2. Prime Minister Abe stated that he hopes Japan and the United States will work closely to send a powerful message concerning North Korea on the occasion of President Trump's visit to Japan, and expressed his expectation that he is looking forward to discussing not only the situation concerning North Korea but also regional affairs in general during President Trump's visit to Japan. 
  3. In response, President Trump replied that he very much looks forward to visiting Japan as the first destination of his tour, explained that Japan and the United States are 100% together, and adding the view that his visit to Japan will be the perfect opportunity to show the world that there is no room for doubt about the strength of the Japan-U.S. Alliance. 
  4. The two leaders shared the view that they will have in-depth discussions, including with regard to regional affairs such as North Korea, on various occasions such as summit meeting.
