Japan-U.S. Summit Telephone Talk

On October 4, commencing at around 10 p.m. for approximately 12 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Donald Trump, President of the United States of America. The overview of the telephone talk is as follows:
- Prime Minister Abe expressed his condolences to the victims of the shooting incident that occurred in Las Vegas in the evening of October 1 (local time), and explained that he was immensely shocked and utterly outraged to learn that the lives of a number of innocent civilians were lost. Prime Minister Abe stated that he wished to convey his sincerest condolences to the victims and their families, and explained that he and all the people of Japan are 100% with President Trump and the people of the United States during this difficult time.
- In response, President Trump appreciated Prime Minister Abe, referring him as a true friend.
- Additionally, the two leaders shared the view that dialogue for the sake of dialogue with North Korea is meaningless, and it is critical for the international community as a whole to continue to apply maximum pressure on North Korea, and for that purpose, Japan and the U.S. will cooperate closely.
- Furthermore, both leaders stated that they are looking forward to President Trump’s visit to Japan, and decided to continue to coordinate the visit.
