Japan-United States of America Relations

On March 6, commencing at around 11:15 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs, held a telephone talk with the Honorable Rex W. Tillerson, Secretary of State of the United States of America. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Foreign Minister Kishida stated that North Korea's ballistic missile launches earlier in this morning is a clear act of provocation to the region and the international community, and is totally unacceptable.
  2. The two sides affirmed that Japan and the United States will adopt a decisive stance against North Korea, and strongly urge North Korea to refrain from further provocative actions and comply with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and other international agreements.
  3. In addition, the two sides agreed that, in order to continue to respond effectively to North Korea's nuclear and missile issues, including its provocative actions, Japan and the United States, and Japan, the United States, and the Republic of Korea will continue to work together closely, including at the United Nations, and promptly issue a strong message at the United Nations Security Council.
