On March 13th, commencing at 2:55 p.m. local time (3:55 a.m. on March 14th JST) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, during his visit to Canada to attend the G7 Charlevoix Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Minister Iwaya expressed his intention to continue close cooperation in a wide range of areas including security, economy, and people-to-people exchanges.
  2. The two Ministers affirmed the importance of cooperation among allies and like-minded countries including G7 in responding to regional situation, including the situation in Ukraine. Minister Iwaya stated that Japan would provide full support for the success of Canada’s G7 Presidency this year.
  3. With regards to security and defense cooperation between the two countries, the two Ministers welcomed the agreement in principle of the Japan-Canada Information Security Agreement.
  4. The two Ministers confirmed that they will continue to promote bilateral cooperation, including cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region and in the economic field.
