Japan-Canada Relations

On March 23 (local time), Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs HOSAKA Yasushi, Special Envoy of the Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio, visited Montreal, Canada to attend the state funeral of the Right Honourable Brian MULRONEY. Special Envoy Hosaka conveyed the condolences to the Right Honourable Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, The Honourable Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada on behalf of the Government and the people of Japan.

During his term of office, former Prime Minister Mulroney worked to restore the honour of Japanese Canadians by gaining Redress, which provides compensation to Japanese Canadians who suffered human rights violations during World WarII. In view of his work, Special Envoy Hosaka held a meeting with Japanese Canadians taking this occasion to Canada.
