Regarding the state funeral of the Right Honourable Brian MULRONEY, former Prime Minister of Canada, which will take place on March 23 in Montreal, Canada, Japan decided to dispatch Parliamentary Vice-Minister HOSAKA Yasushi, as Special Envoy of Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister, in view of the importance of the relations between Japan and Canada.
During his term of office, former Prime Minister Mulroney worked to restore the honour of Japanese Canadians by gaining Redress, which provides compensation to Japanese Canadians who suffered human rights violations during World WarIIand contributed to deepening Japan-Canada relations in a variety of areas. The dispatch of Parliamentary Vice-Minister Hosaka as Special Envoy of Prime Minister aims to express the deep condolences of Prime Minister Kishida and those of Japan.
