On October 20, State Minister for Foreign Affairs FUJII Hisayuki received a courtesy call from 60 participants of the FY2025 Training Program for Local Staff in Japan.

State Minister Fujii expressed his heartfelt appreciation for their dedicated contributions to Japan’s diplomatic missions abroad, describing them as a genuine source of pride for the nation. He also personally exchanged words with each participant and offered warm encouragement.

This year’s program, held from October 19 to 26, is organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other relevant institutions. It brings together local staff members working at Japan’s embassies, consulates-general, and other overseas establishments.
(Note) Participants include 24 from Asia and Oceania, 12 from North, Central, and South America, 13 from Europe, and 11 from the Middle East and Africa, for a total of 60.
The program features lectures by senior officials and external experts on key diplomatic fields such as administration, consular affairs, public diplomacy, and foreign policy, along with training sessions on Japanese cuisine and etiquette, and study visits around Tokyo.

Local staff play an indispensable role in supporting Japan’s diplomatic activities and the daily operations of its overseas missions.

The sixty participants selected for this year’s program were chosen from approximately 5,600 local staff members worldwide, in recognition of their outstanding performance and commitment.

Through this training, the participants are expected to deepen their understanding of Japan’s diplomatic systems and policies, gain up-to-date insights through firsthand experience in Japan, and further strengthen their professional motivation.

It is hoped that their efforts will continue to contribute to the enhancement of Japan’s diplomatic endeavors across the globe.
