The G7 leaders' spouses who are welcomed by student volunteers

On May 20, Mrs. KISHIDA Yuko, the Spouse of the Prime Minister of Japan, hosted the second day of the G7 Hiroshima Summit Partners’ Program in Hiroshima, visiting Miyajima together with the spouses of the G7 Summit leaders. In attendance were (1) Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States of America, (2) Mrs. Britta Ernst, the Spouse of Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, (3) Mrs. Akshata Murty, the Spouse of Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, and (4) Prof. Dr. Heiko von der Leyen, the Spouse of President of the European Commission.

Mrs. Kishida expressed her delight being able to welcome the spouses of the G7 Summit leaders to the beautiful island of Miyajima and her hope that they would enjoy the menu of items prepared using plentiful local ingredients with the beer specially made for this day at Miyajima Brewery. Before lunch, demonstration of Okonomiyaki was shown, and they savored the Hiroshima specialty with all their senses. This was a very significant opportunity to disseminate the attractions of Hiroshima’s food culture to the world.
