Consultations between Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs HAYASHI and parties concerned to the Yemeni conflict

Mr. HAYASHI Katsuyoshi, Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs (former Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Yemen), visited the Sultanate of Oman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia from August 1 to 4, and hold consultations about the situation in Yemen with parties concerned to the Yemeni conflict. The overview is as follows.
- Special Assistant to the Minister for Foreign Affairs HAYASHI hold consultations individually with parties concerned to the Yemeni conflict, including Dr. Mansour Ali Saeed Bajash, Under Secretary for Political Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Republic of Yemen and Mr. Mohammed Abdulsalam, Spokesman for the Houthis as well as with officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman.
- During the consultations, Special Assistant HAYASHI stated that the Government of Japan highly appreciates the efforts made by all parties in Yemen as well as the important roles which regional countries including the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman have been playing to realize the extension of the truce. Special Assistant HAYASHI urged the parties concerned to the conflict towards a further extension of the truce and a political solution for the peace and stability in Yemen, noting that the Government of Japan strongly hopes that this truce agreement will continue to be observed by all parties, roads in Taiz and other governorates will be opened, and the parties will make progress in the dialogue towards realizing a permanent peace in Yemen.
- The Government of Japan has been actively providing humanitarian assistance for Yemen, including the emergency food assistance announced on May 10, 2022, to support the truce, and remains committed to continue making efforts, in cooperation with the United Nations and countries concerned, to realize peace and stability in Yemen.
