Japan-Saudi Arabia Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On June 28, commencing at 3:45 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a Foreign Ministers’ meeting with H.E. Dr. Ibrahim Al-Assaf, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who is visiting Japan to attend the G20 Osaka Summit. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- Foreign Minister Kono made his welcome remark to Foreign Minister Al-Assaf and expressed his gratitude for holding Foreign Ministers’ meeting again after the meeting last April. Minister Kono stated that Japan continues to support Saudi Arabia’s reform and would like to continuously promote “Japan-Saudi Vision 2030”, and that Japan will closely work together with Saudi Arabia for the success of the G20 Summit in Saudi Arabia next year.
- Foreign Minister Al-Assaf stated that it is delightful to see continued cooperation and collaboration between the two countries, and that Saudi Arabia would like to foster cooperation with Japan as an important partner of “Saudi Vision 2030”. Foreign Minister Al-Assaf praised Japan’s efforts for the G20 Osaka Summit and expressed his wish for the success of the G20 Osaka Summit.
- Both Ministers exchanged opinions on regional issues of the Middle East.
