Japan-Saudi Arabia Relations
60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationships between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in 2015
Background
The Year 2015 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
(Note) Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia did not have formal diplomatic relations before the end of the Second World War. On 7 June 1955, both countries agreed on the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relationship between the Ambassadors of both countries in Egypt.
On that occasion, various commemorating events will be held in both countries. It is expected that through such events mutual understandings and collaborations will be realized in various levels so that the bilateral comprehensive partnership will be further strengthened.
During the official visit of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to Japan in February 2014, both countries concurred on jointly celebrating this 60th anniversary.
