On Febuary 21, Mr. MATSUMOTO Hisashi, Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, received a courtesy call from participants of the Eighth Dialogue on Countering Violent Extremism in the Middle East. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Parliamentary Vice Minister Matsumoto welcomed the participants’ visit to Japan. He stated that Japan shares with Islam a spirit that emphasizes “tolerance,”and that Japan hopes to take advantage of the longstanding good relations with countries in the Middle East incontinuing to contribute to peace and prosperity of the Middle East as well as the international community, including through countering violent extremism, an issue shared by the Middle East and Japan.
  2. In response, the participants expressed their gratitude for the invitation to Japan, and expressed their intention to utilize the knowledge acquired through the visit, and their expectations for Japan to play a role in countering violent extremism.
