Japan-Oman Foreign Ministers' Meeting

On September 1, commencing at 3:45 p.m. local time (9:45 p.m. JST) for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting Kuwait to attend the Japan-GCC Foreign Ministers' Meeting and other events, held a meeting with H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister of the Sultanate of Oman. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister IWAYA welcomed the recent increase in high-level exchanges between Japan and Oman, taking the opportunity of the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. In response, Minister Badr expressed his expectations for further building upon such active exchanges between the two countries.
- The two Foreign Ministers held a candid exchange of views on regional and international affairs, including the situations in Iran and Gaza.
- Minister IWAYA expressed his respect for Oman’s important role in easing regional tensions, including its mediation efforts between the United States and Iran regarding the Iran’s nuclear issue. He also stated his desire to cooperate in resolving these issues through dialogue. In response, Minister Badr explained Oman's diplomatic efforts aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Iran’s nuclear issue.
- Minister IWAYA expressed his intention to work with Oman to improve the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and to realize a "two-state solution." In response, Minister Badr welcomed Japan’s efforts toward regional stabilization and stated that the various challenges facing the Middle East are all linked to the Palestinian issue, and that without a just resolution to this issue, stability in the region cannot be achieved.
- Furthermore, the two Ministers also exchanged views on the situation in the Indo-Pacific Region and concurred to communicate more closely to peacefully resolve regional and global challenges.
