Japan-Oman Relations
Meeting between Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and H.H. Sayyid Asaad, the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative for the Sultan of Oman
On October 21, commencing at around 10:55 a.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, held a meeting with H.H. Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq bin Taimur Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative for His Majesty the Sultan of Oman, who is visiting Japan. The overview of the meeting is as follows. The meeting was attended by Mr. NISHIMURA Yasutoshi, Minister in charge of Economic Revitalization, Mr. NISHIMURA Akihiro, Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary, and others on the Japanese side, and by H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad al Busaidi,Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Dr. Mohamed bin Said Al Busaidi, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Oman to Japan, and others on the Oman side.
1. Prime Minister Abe welcomed the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Special Representative Asaad to Japan, and expressed his pleasure at the deepening bilateral relation in areas such as economy and security under their “Comprehensive Partnership”. He also stated that Oman contributes to regional peace and stability and is a strategically important partner for Japan.
2. In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Special Representative Asaad stated that he was greatly honored to attend the Ceremony of the Enthronement of His Majesty the Emperor. He also stated that Japan and Oman have enjoyed long and deep relationship, and expressed his hopes for the further strengthening of its relations. Both sides concurred that they would continue to cooperate for enhancing the bilateral relationship.
3. Both sides exchanged views regarding the recent situation in the Middle East, and shared the view to continue to cooperate for easing tensions and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East.
4. Both sides also discussed the situation on East Asia including North Korea. Prime Minister Abe requested understanding and cooperation on the early resolution of the abductions issue. In response, Deputy Prime Minister and Special Representative Asaad expressed his support for Japan’s position.
