Japan-Kuwait Relations

On August 26, commencing at 15:00 p.m. for approximately 10 minutes, Ms. TAKAICHI Sanae, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, who is visiting Japan. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister TAKAICHI welcomed Foreign Minister Jarrah’s visit to Japan and expressed her appreciation for the message of sympathy from Kuwait’s Prime Minister His Highness Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah regarding the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake.
  2. In response, Foreign Minister Al-Jarrah delivered a letter from His Highness Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Amir of the State of Kuwait addressed to Prime Minister TAKAICHI, and stated that, under the Comprehensive and Strategic Partnership between the two countries, Kuwait seeks to further strengthen its cooperation with Japan in various fields.
  3. Prime Minister TAKAICHI expressed sympathy for the damage occurred in Kuwait amid the exchanges of attacks surrounding Iran and stated that it is important to ensure free and safe navigation in the Strait of Hormuz without additional costs, and that the swift restoration of the strait to its normal state is an urgent priority.
  4. Prime Minister TAKAICHI stated that Japan intends to provide support including for strengthening the oil stockpiling capacity across Asia under “POWERR Asia” initiative launched by Japan, and that Japan intends to make active contributions to enhancing the economic and energy resilience of the Gulf countries.
  5. In response, Foreign Minister Jarrah expressed his gratitude for Japan’s contributions including “POWERR Asia” initiative and stated that Kuwait intends to work closely with Japan in areas of strengthening supply chain resilience and energy security.
