Meeting between Prime Minister Ishiba and H.H. Sheikh Sabah Khalid Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait

On September 23, commencing at 2:30 p.m. local time (on 24, 3:30 a.m. JST) for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, who is visiting New York to attend the 80th United Nations General Assembly, held a meeting with H.H. Sheikh Sabah Khalid Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, Crown Prince of the State of Kuwait. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- Prime Minister ISHIBA stated that based on the comprehensive strategic partnership upgraded during H.H. the Crown Prince's visit to Japan this past May, he intended to further strengthen bilateral relations across a wide range of fields. He also noted that Kuwait, with its strong commitment to multilateralism including at the United Nations, is a reliable partner in international fora and that he wished to work closely with Kuwait. Prime Minister ISHIBA also expressed gratitude for Kuwait's long-standing stable supply of crude oil, and both sides concurred to promote energy cooperation, including clean energy. Furthermore, both sides welcomed the lifting of the ban on imports of Japanese beef into Kuwait scheduled on September 25.
- Both sides also exchanged views on recent developments in the Middle East and confirmed their close coordination toward achieving a “two-state solution” for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
- Both sides, as comprehensive strategic partners, also concurred to strengthen cooperation in various fields in Asia and Africa.
