Foreign Minister MOTEGI(Ambassador on Special Mission)Pays a Condolence Call on the Amir of the State of Kuwait Following the Demise of the Former Amir Sheikh Sabah

On October 4, commencing at 12:25 p.m. (local time) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan and Ambassador on Special Mission, who was visiting Kuwait, paid a condolence call and had talks with His Highness Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of the State of Kuwait, following the Demise of His Highness Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the former Amir on September 29. The overview is as follows.
- Minister Motegi expressed on the behave of the Government and People of Japan his condolences on the passing of former Amir Sheikh Sabah, noting that he had played an important role in for the peace and stability of the Middle East and the international community. He also noted that the demise of the former Amir is a tremendous loss, as the former Amir had always paid close attention to relations with Japan, including the assistance that was extended to Japan following the Great East Japan Earthquake, and that Japan stands with the people of Kuwait seek to overcome their grief at the former Amir's passing. In response, His Highness Sheikh Nawaf thanked Minister Motegi for his heartwarming words of condolence.
- Minister Motegi also stated that Japan's stance in engaging proactively in diplomatic efforts toward easing tensions and stabilizing the situation in the Middle East is unwavering and that Japan will continue to work closely with Kuwait. His Highness Sheikh Nawaf stated that Kuwait values its relationship with Japan and will work to further develop cooperative relations.
