From July 29 to 31, State Minister for Foreign Affairs TSUGE Yoshifumi visited the Islamic Republic of Iran as a special envoy of Prime Minister KISHIDA Fumio. The overview of the visit is as follows:

  1. On July 30, Special Envoy Tsuge attended the Inauguration Ceremony of H.E. Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, held at the Parliament of the Islamic Republic of Iran. Prior to the ceremony, Special Envoy Tsuge greeted Parliament Speaker Ghalibaf.
  2. On the same day, Special Envoy Tsuge paid a courtesy call on President Pezeshkian and had a meeting at an international conference center in Tehran.
    1. Special Envoy Tsuge expressed his congratulations to President Pezeshkian on his inauguration and expressed his desire to work together for the further development of bilateral relations based on the traditional friendship between the two countries.
    2. In response, President Pezeshkian expressed his gratitude for the visit and stated that Iran is ready to deepen its relations with Japan and would like to further expand the relationship in various fields with Prime Minister Kishida.
    3. Special Envoy Tsuge expressed his expectation that Iran will play a more constructive role towards peace and stability in the Middle East given the current situation in the region. He also stated that human and cultural exchanges dating back more than 1000 years between the two countries are encouraging and expressed his hope that the friendly relations will further enrich the people-to-people ties that will be an asset for the future.
    4. In response, President Pezeshkian stated that he is ready to cooperate with any country for the sake of peace and stability in the region.
    5. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and regional affairs, and concurred to deepen the dialogue between the two countries.

  1. On the same day, Special Envoy Tsuge hosted a dinner with Japanese nationals working in international or governmental organizations in Iran (UNHCR, WHO, IOM, JICA). During the discussions, he heard from the participants about the activities and challenges of each organization and exchanged views on the local situation. He encouraged the participants, who are now well integrated in Iran and are contributing to international cooperation in various fields.
