On August 7, commencing at 6:15 p.m. for approximately 25 minutes, Mr. KISHIDA Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call from H.E. Dr. Hossein Amir Abdollahian, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, who is visiting to Japan. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister Kishida welcomed Minister Amir Abdollahian’s visit to Japan. In response, Minister Amir Abdollahian expressed Iran’s intention to further deepen cooperation between Japan and Iran, which has a long established history.
  2. Prime Minister Kishida stated that Japan supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and is seriously concerned about the expansion of Iran’s nuclear activities. Furthermore, Prime Minister Kishidacalled on Iran to take constructive measures including the full and unconditional cooperation under the Joint Statement between Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). In response, Minister Amir Abdollahian stated that Iran is pursuing the restoration of the JCPOA through negotiations, and expressed his appreciation for Japan’s diplomatic efforts and stated that Iran would like to continue communication with Japan on this matter.
