On February 21, commencing at 12:15 p.m. (On February 21, 7:15 p.m., JST), for approximately 40 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister of Foreign Affairs during his visit to the Republic of South Africa for attending the G20 Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Hakan FİDAN, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. The overview is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Minister IWAYA stated that it is extremely important that the ceasefire agreement and hostage release will be implemented steadily and in good faith and addressing the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza remains essential. He also expressed Japan’s willingness to work together closely with Türkiye toward a two-state solution and long-term regional peace and stability.
  2. Minister Fidan explained Türkiye’s views on the current international circumstances , as well as the diplomatic efforts by Türkiye, and stated that Türkiye attaches great importance to cooperation with Japan as a close partner. Minister Fidan also expressed his appreciation for Japan's humanitarian support in the wake of the regional situation.
  3. The two ministers confirmed that they will work together on important bilateral issues, such as the early conclusion of negotiations on the Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA). They also concurred to continue active consultations and dialogues and to work closely together in tackling international issues including the Middle East, Ukraine and East Asia.
