Japan-Türkiye Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On July 14, commencing at 1:40 p.m. (local time; on July 14, at 3:40 a.m. Japan time) for approximately 30 minutes, Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting Jakarta to attend ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Hakan FIDAN, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
- At the outset, Minister Hayashi conveyed his congratulation to Minister Fidan’s appointment as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Türkiye. The two Ministers concurred to work closely together.
- Minister Hayashi stated that Japan attaches much value to its strategic partnership with Türkiye, and, referring to the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year, he expressed his hope to further develop bilateral relations in a wide range of areas, and to expand cooperation in the international arena. The two ministers confirmed that they will work together on important bilateral issues, such as the early finalization of an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) and the opening of the Turkish-Japanese University of Science and Technology (TJU).
- The two Ministers also exchanged views on international affairs including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine and regional situations of their common interest. During the discussion, Minister Hayashi welcomed Türkiye's recent decision to proceed with domestic process for Sweden’s accession to NATO.
