Japan-Tunisia Relations

On August 22, commencing at 0:15 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, held a summit meeting with Her Excellency Mrs. Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, Head of Government of the Republic of Tunisia, who is visiting Japan to participate in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), in Yokohama. The overview of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA expressed his pleasure at holding TICAD 9, building on the achievements of TICAD 8, chaired by President Saied, and stated the Japan attaches importance to the relations with Tunisia, which plays a vital role in regional stability. In response, Prime Minister Zaafrani Zenzri stated that the bilateral relations have been strengthened and expressed her gratitude for Japan's past support to Tunisia.
  2. Prime Minister ISHIBA then stated Japan will continue to cooperate in addressing Tunisia's water shortage. Both leaders welcomed the significant progress made in negotiations for a bilateral investment agreement and concurred in further strengthening their economic relationship.
  3. In addition, the two leaders exchanged views on various issues, including cooperation in the international arena, as well as the situation in the Middle East.
