On October 7, State Minister for Foreign Affairs NAKASONE Yasutaka received a courtesy call from H.E. Mr. Ahmed CHAFRA, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Tunisia to Japan, for approximately 15 minutes beginning at 11:00 a.m. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

  1. State Minister Nakasone stated that Tunisia plays an important role in regional stability as a nexus connecting the Middle East, Africa, and Europe, and that Japan places great importance on its partnership with Tunisia. He also expressed Japan's intention to further strengthen bilateral relations in this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
  2. State Minister Nakasone also noted that both sides share the same position on signing the Japan-Tunisia Investment Agreement, which has reached substantial agreement, within this year, the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
  3. In response, Ambassador Chafra expressed his commitment to working toward further strengthening the economic relationship between the two countries through the signing of the Investment Agreement and the realization of a Japan-Tunisia Bilateral Economic Forum. Both sides also agreed to continue close cooperation throughout this year, which marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
