(Photo) Foreign Minister Hayashi sends a letter to Tunisian President

On August 26th, commencing at 2:15 PM (local time, 10:15 AM on August 26th JST) for approximately 45 minutes, Foreign Minister Hayashi Yoshimasa, who is visiting Tunisia for attending TICAD 8, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Kais Saied, President of the Republic of Tunisia. The overview is as follows.

  1. At the outset, President Saied welcomed Minister Hayashi’s visit to Tunisia and expressed his willingness to further enhance Japan-Tunisia relationship by taking advantage of this visit. In response, Minister Hayashi handed over the Prime Minister Kishida’s letter to President Saied and stated that he was pleased to witness the steady development of Japan-Tunisia relations through various exchanges and that he hoped to make TICAD 8 a success by cooperating with President Saied.
  2. President Saied then expressed his gratitude for Japan's support and cooperation to date, and expressed his expectation for further cooperation with Japan aimed at contributing to Tunisia's economic and social reforms. Minister Hayashi stressed the importance of fair and transparent development finance based on international rules and standards, as well as the UN Security Council reform, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, and stated that he would like to cooperate with Tunisia.
