Meeting between Foreign Minister MOTEGI and Dr. Mustafa, Prime Minister of Palestine

On January 11, commencing at 5:00 p.m. local time (0:00 a.m. on January 12, Japan time) for approximately 45 minutes, Mr. MOTEGI Toshimitsu, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Dr. Mohammad Mustafa, Prime Minister of Palestine. The overview of the meeting is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister MOTEGI explained Japan's consistent support for a two-state solution and its position on rebuilding of Gaza and supporting Palestinian state-building efforts. In response, Prime Minister Mustafa expressed his welcome for Minister MOTEGI’s visit to Palestine, especially his visit to Jalazone Refugee Camp, and their gratitude for Japan's long-standing support.
- Minister MOTEGI expressed concern over the continuing grave humanitarian situation in Gaza. Minister MOTEGI stated that Japan will actively engage in international efforts toward Gaza rebuilding through its “efforts for sustaining peace”.
- Minister MOTEGI also expressed serious concerns about the deteriorating situation in the West Bank. Prime Minister Mustafa explained the current situation of the Palestinian Authority reforms. Minister Motegi expressed his expectation on the robust progress in the reforms, stating that Japan is ready to support monitoring the implementation of the reforms.
- The two sides concurred on working together for peace and stability in the Middle East, and on establishing “Japan-Palestine High-level Political Dialogue”.
