Foreign Minister Kono Pays a Courtesy Call on the President of Palestine

On December 25th, from 19:15hrs local time for approximately 100 minutes, H.E. Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Dr. Mohmoud Abbas, President of Palestine, during his visit to Palestine. The overview is as follows.
- In the beginning, President Abbas welcomed Minister Kono's visit to Palestine, and expressed his appreciation to Japan, including Minister Kono, who always supports Palestine.
- In response, Minister Kono reaffirmed Japan's position to support a two-state solution and all issues, including the status of Jerusalem, should be solved through negotiation between the concerned parties. Also, Minister Kono explained the launch of Phase 2 of the Jericho Agro-Industrial Park (JAIP) and the expansion of its cooperation to logistics and ICT sectors, and stressed that Japan would continue to support Palestine, including new assistance projects to Palestine.
- President Abbas extended his deepest appreciation to a number of Japan's sincere supports to Panestine, and showed his respect towards JAIP as the most successful project.
- Regarding the issues of North Korea, Minister Kono emphasized the importance of elevating pressure on NK by all means including the full implementation of the UNSC resolutions, towards the resolution of North Korea's nuclear and missile issues as well as the abduction issue.
