Japan-Egypt-Jordan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On September 23, commencing at 10:00 p.m. local time (on September 24, 11:00 a.m. JST) for approximately 60 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, during her visit to New York, held Japan-Egypt-Jordan Foreign Ministers’ Meeting with H.E. Dr. Badr ABDELATTY, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Expatriates of the Arab Republic of Egypt and H. E. Mr. Ayman SAFADI, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The overview is as follows:
- At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that regarding the situation in Gaza, Japan is seriously concerned that the fighting has been going on for nearly a year, that a large number of civilians have been killed, and that the humanitarian situation is critical, and it is imperative that all the parties concerned make every effort toward the release of the hostages and a ceasefire, and that Japan will work closely with Egypt and Jordan to prevent further escalation and calm down the situation in the Middle East region including the Israel-Lebanon situation.
- In response, Minister Abdelatty and Minister Safadi stated that the situation is extremely tense and it is important to cooperate with Japan, a close and strong partner, and they shares the concerns expressed by Minister Kamikawa. then explained the latest situation on the ground as well as their efforts.
- The three Ministers confirmed that they will continue to exchange views and work together in order to further develop the framework of cooperation.
