Japan-Türkiye Relations

Mr. Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Japan, had a telephone talk for approximately 20 minutes commencing at 7:15 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2020 with H.E. Mr. Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of the Republic of Turkey. The overview is as follows.

1. President Erdoğan explained Turkey’s efforts regarding novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19). In response, Prime Minister Abe expressed his respect for President Erdoğan for confrontingCOVID-19 by every measure under his leadership.

2. Prime Minister Abe explained the measures in Japan in response to COVID-19 while stating that he expects that a hospital jointly constructed by a Japanese company and a local company in Turkey will contribute to treatment of infected people. In response, President Erdoğan stated that he highly appreciated the measures of the Japanese government regarding COVID-19.

3. Both leaders shared the view to maintain close collaboration in order to prevent the spread of infection, as well as to continue strengthening Japan-Turkey relations.
