On August 21, commencing at 9:45 a.m. for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. ISHIBA Shigeru, Prime Minister of Japan, received a courtesy call in Yokohama from H.E. Mr. Abdullah ALLAFI, Vice President of the Presidential Council of the State of Libya, who is visiting Japan to attend the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9). The summary of the meeting is as follows:

  1. At the outset, Prime Minister ISHIBA welcomed Vice President Allafi’s third visit to Japan, and stated that Japan commends the role that the Presidential Council has played in stabilizing Libya’s political and security situation. In response, Vice President Allafi expressed his appreciation for Japan’s cooperation in various fields, including human resource development and peacebuilding.
  2. Prime Minister ISHIBA also expressed his expectation that the stabilization of Libya’s domestic situation would lead to greater engagement by Japanese companies in Libya. The two sides also welcomed the recent increase in high-level visits between the two countries, and concurred on continuing to work together towards Libya’s long-term stability.
